I am a cancer survivor. I was first diagnosed with cancer at the base of my tongue in June 2008 and was referred to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre (WRCC). I had a great experience with the WRCC, even though it was determined that the treatment I required could not be delivered at the WRCC. I was referred to the Karmanos Centre in Detroit and started treatment in July 2008. I had to cross the border daily for treatment. At times, there were some very difficult moments.
Fortunately, since 2008, the WRCC has acquired the necessary equipment to perform the treatment that I had required back in 2008. It is a necessity for our community to support the WRCC and the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation to stay ahead of the game. That’s what Grow On Windsor is all about. There is no better place for treatment and support than your own home.
Today, 12 years later, I keep on keeping on. I’ve had one small recurrence which was quickly managed locally and I’m healthy, active and contributing. There is life after cancer. Keep the faith.
